What we treat
Autism and speech
Many parents search for the difference between autism and a speech delay, because the early signs overlap. Speech therapy supports an autistic child whether or not the child speaks.
Communication is wider than speech
Pointing, leading you by the hand, pictures and devices all count as communication. We build whichever route works for your child.
The home setting helps
A familiar room lowers the load on a child who finds new places hard.
We work with your other therapists
If your child already sees an occupational therapist or a centre, we fit around that work instead of repeating it.
Common questions
- Is speech delay a sign of autism?
- It can be one sign, but on its own it is not enough. A diagnosis looks at social communication, play and behaviour together. Ask a developmental paediatrician or a clinical psychologist for the diagnosis.
This page gives general information only. It is not a diagnosis. For your own child, see a registered speech-language therapist or a doctor.
