A child who does not speak still needs a way to tell you things. Pictures, signs and speech devices give them one.
A device does not stop speech
The research points the other way. Giving a child a way to communicate usually supports speech rather than replacing it.
Start simple
A few pictures that your child actually wants beat a large system nobody uses.
The whole house joins in
A system only works when everyone at home uses it.
